Theme: Many Shades of Green

Accommodations and Food

Accommodations
Our AESS conference accommodations feature two fine and affordable hotels in downtown Portland:
  • Hotel deLuxe (www.hoteldeluxeportland.com): 866.986.8085. "Hotel deLuxe, a downtown Portland hotel, is a contemporary tribute to the Golden Era of Hollywood filmmaking that tastefully balances art deco and art moderne styles for a mix of timeless sophistication and serene comfort" (from website).
  • Hotel Lucia (www.hotellucia.com): 866.986.8086. "A Portland hotel where style and comfort converge. Situated in the heart of downtown Portland, the Hotel Lucia offers a unique alternative to all other Portland, Oregon hotels. Inside, experience cutting-edge design and unsurpassed comfort. Venture outside and be at the epicenter of all Portland has to offer, including Portland attractions, Portland restaurants, tax free Portland shopping, art galleries and theatre" (from website).
Shuttle service between these two hotels and Lewis & Clark campus will be provided as part of conference registration. You will make reservations for these hotels separate from registering for the conference.  The discounted single and double occupancy rate for both hotels is $135 per night plus tax (make sure to request the AESS rate). You may reserve any time up to the conference if space is available, so make your reservations soon: the discount conference rate will apply.

If you are planning to participate in pre-conference field trips or workshops you should make sure to book a room starting Wednesday; otherwise the conference will start in the late afternoon Thursday (see schedule), and you may choose to book a room starting Wednesday or Thursday.  The conference will end early afternoon Sunday June 20; you may be able to add Sunday night accommodation if needed, also for the discount conference rate.

In addition to hotel accommodation, limited low-cost Lewis & Clark campus dorm space was available through the reservation deadline of May 28.  Dorm accommodations were reserved as a part of conference registration (beds in single rooms are $27/night and in double rooms $24/night each, including linens, towels, and shared bathrooms).  Any future registrants should book a room in one of the conference hotels above.  For information on wireless access on campus, see here.

Food
Dining on Lewis & Clark campus in summer is in Fields Dining Room, Templeton Center; you will prepay for meals as a part of conference registration, or if you neglected to do so, via our conference meals signup (deadline Tue June 8; meals purchased onsite will cost extra and must be via cash or check only).  Meals in Fields Dining Room and all other food served as part of the conference will be catered by Bon Appetit (note that only Fields and Trailroom are open in summer), committed to serving fresh, local, and sustainable foods; vegetarian options are available, and during registration you may state any food preferences or restrictions. Portland's strong emphasis on these qualities reinforces the Bon's mission and ensures you a varied and healthy dining experience. Summer hours and prices for their buffet-style meals are as follows:
  • Breakfast 7:30–8:30 AM ($7.50)
  • Lunch 11:30 AM–1:00 PM ($9.50)
  • Dinner 5:00–6:30 PM ($12.00)
Meals will be served from Wednesday evening dinner (for those arriving early for  field trips or workshops) through our closing Sunday plenary lunch; for those who must stay over through Monday morning, Sunday dinner and Monday breakfast will be available.  Participants staying on-campus or in downtown Portland are asked to prepay for campus meals: given the relative lack of dining opportunities immediately near campus, we recommend that you plan to eat on campus on days when you are participating in conference events. The one exception is Saturday evening, a free evening in which all conference participants are encouraged to experience downtown Portland (though dining will be available in Fields as well).

The following plenary meals will be provided to all registered participants in Fields Dining Room free of charge as a part of the conference registration fee:
  • Thursday evening welcome reception and keynote
  • Friday afternoon art show opening reception
  • Friday evening banquet and keynote
  • Saturday lunch and keynote
In addition, a variety of food options is available in downtown Portland. Click here to download a PDF listing information and links on select options close to downtown hotels.  For other restaurants in Portland, see Urbanspoon or the Willamette Week for info and reviews.

Please contact the Lewis & Clark Environmental Studies Program if questions on the above.
