2010 Conference June 17–20 Portland, Oregon
Theme: Many Shades of Green
Call For Participation

The 2010 AESS Conference at Lewis & Clark College in Portland involves a two-step proposal process:
Note: The call for sessions is now closed; see here for approved sessions.
Step 2: Call for Presentations (Extended Deadline April 15, 2010—11:59h PST)
Note: The call for presentations is now closed. The below summarizes the proposal process participants followed.
Note: the AESS conference is a national meeting featuring the highest quality work in our organization. Presentation proposals will not be automatically accepted. Make sure to effectively convey the content and relevance of your presentation, and make sure to follow all guidelines below.
The extended proposal deadline is Thursday, April 15, 2010 (11:59 PST). AESS is pleased to be using new software, OpenConf, which provides a secure method for submitting and managing proposals. The online submission process is quick and easy. It should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete (for students interested in the presentation award, please see these
extra instructions).
Please review these points (also provided at the top of the proposal form) before submitting your proposal:
- You must choose one or more sessions (see Topic Areas on the proposal form) for which you wish your presentation to be considered. All sessions are listed in the same order as given on the aess.info conference sessions page: please consult that page first for additional information on each session, including presentation type (paper or panel), abstracts, and organizer name(s) and email(s). Note: if you are proposing to present a poster, please select the ESS Poster Contributions topic at the very bottom of the list. If you do not see a session that best matches your interests, we strongly encourage you to submit a presentation abstract to one of the four general contributions sessions included in the session list:
- Many Shades of Green: General Contributions
- ESS Theory: General Contributions
- ESS Pedagogy: General Contributions
- ESS Praxis: General Contributions
- Here are details on some specific items requested in the proposal form:
- "Title" is the title of your proposed presentation, not your academic title
- Under "Author(s) Information," please include information for each author connected with your presentation
- "Contact Author" is the person with whom the Program Committee will be in contact regarding this presentation
- "Topic Areas" are all 2010 conference sessions; you must choose one or more sessions for your presentation (see above). Their order is the same as given on the aess.info page.
- For "Keywords," please list up to five comma-separated terms that describe your proposed presentation.
- "Abstract" is perhaps the most important part of your proposal. Please fully summarize the content of your presentation (you will not attach your presentation file to this proposal form, so make sure your summary is comprehensive), and make sure to provide a justification in terms of relevance to the session(s) you checked. Please limit the abstract to 250 words, and feel free to paste text from a Word or other document.
- "Password" is what you will enter in future if you need to modify this particular proposal prior to the submission deadline. You will also enter this password to upload your presentation prior to the conference (required of all accepted proposals).
- Presentation proposals will be selected based on the extent to which they (a) are of high scholarly quality, and (b) contribute to the session(s) in which they are proposed.
- Individuals may submit more than one presentation proposal. To do so, you must complete this form from scratch for each and every proposal.
If you need to modify your proposal, please use the Edit Submission link at
www.openconf.org/aess2010 and login using the password you supplied when you originally submitted your presentation proposal.
